Sad

October and November are two of my least favorite months. Perhaps I have mild seasonal depression because there's a certain point in the earlier evenings where I realize the day is over and I just crash and hate everything. The shorter days make me too moody. Yes, I'm aware the shortest days are actually in December, but the dwindling hours of these months feel more suffocating for me. They remind me of my impending death and the fruitlessness of life. I get invited to do things or think about being productive and then I lie back down and wonder, "What's the point?"

And then I hear how melodramatic I sound and I smile an ironic smile and it's a little bit better. And soon it will be December, which is vacation, and then the days will widen and life will widen and everything will be better.

In other news, I think that I look  more Arabic today than I did a year ago. Sometimes I look at my eyes and my nose and I wonder when they got to be quite so Middle Eastern. Do you think that's really a possibility? People say that couples start to look like each other. Maybe I'm starting to look like everyone around me too.

  1. I sometimes feel a little down too when it already gets dark at 5pm. I suppose that's why September is statistically the month with the highest number of births. People don't feel like going out in the winter so they find other "things" to do at home haha.

    1. Sorry for butting in, but I think that's because of New Year's. Much of the world is not in winter in January. :P

  2. Hrm... If you've been buying stuff in the UAE, then perhaps the clothes and the accessories make all of you look Arabic. I know very little about biology and psychology, but couples who live together have the same habits, and the habits affect the way they look. (My boyfriend mentioned that after one of his skinny uncles married a plump woman, he became plump too.) So perhaps habits you picked up in the UAE might be making you look like your neighbors.

*hugs* Longer days are coming soon! Perhaps that's why the European pagans had winter solstice celebrations - so that the lack of sunlight is overshadowed by the holidays.

    1. Haha, no, I still definitely dress like an American. Like I don't even have to open my mouth for people to know I'm American. Perhaps the food is changing my face though. The olives are elongating my nose and the shwarma is giving my eyes their more striking shape...

  3. It is definitely possible to look more Arabic - just look at Freddie Mercury from Queen who is a Parsi but in some pictures looks just like the Englishmen he is with! :P
